Movie Plot: Katherine Newbury is an acclaimed talk show host with an extensive career in comedy, but has seen a steady decline in her show’s ratings over the past decade. The network’s president, Carolyn Morton, asks Catherine to fix her show or be replaced. In an effort to revive the show, Catherine has hired Molly Patel to her writing staff, mainly on the grounds that she is an Indian-American woman while many writers are white men. Although Molly has very little experience of comedy and initially she struggles, she finds Herdin capable of working with her show as well as telling her about how to convey ideas to a larger audience. The results prove successful.
Katherine knows that Carolyn wants to replace young, popular comedian Daniel Tencent as the new host. Catherine protested, because Daniel’s comedy is rude and wrong. With backups from her writers, Katherine considers the network’s demands and decides on the air to continue her career.
